Standings

What a chaotic day of volleyball! (maybe just for us) None the less, volleyball was played and each every team seemed “bump”-ed to “set” up a great game in “spike” of the weather. After last week, four teams itching to break the four-way first place tie, and two searching to improve their less than impressive records. Let’s talk about it.

5:30 - AVTEC vs. Set and Be Set

Starting off the night with our only matchup of 2-1 teams. The game started off with both teams going back and forth: AVTEC showing off some stopping power with their three big hitters: Keenan, Noah, and Misha while Set and Be Set was playing hard while down a player. Eventually, being down a player started to catch up with SABS due to AVTEC finding open spots on the floor. Just as they started to go down, their sixth player showed up and propelled them toward a big win in the first set, 25-17. Going into the second set, AVTEC seemed to lose their edge and capabilities they showed off early in the first set. At the same time, the incredible passing abilities by Allie matched with the surgeon like tips by Reed and Danny lead to a statement win 25-10. Set and Be Set continues to prove why they are the top ranked team.

6:30 - Hits Happen vs. Tony’s Bar

Both of these teams came into this week after big wins last week, and were antsy to get the ball rolling over at the community center. Tony’s Bar played really well last week, carrying the momentum into this week by starting off the game strong and sizing up well against a top-seeded and skill loaded Hits Happen squad. Hits Happen didn’t play their best game, with Ronny making strange sounds while shanking balls. Despite them not having the best play, they sure do seem to be having the most fun, laughing with each other (or at Ronny) while being one of the most competitive teams in the league. Despite the efforts by Tony’s Bar, it was not enough to defeat Hits Happen, losing two straight sets in close bouts: 25-21 and 25-19. Despite the losses, Tony’s Bar is proving to be the dark horse of this league with the ability to match head to head against anyone, and could provide a major upset later in the season.

7:30 - BYE (The Team) vs. Bumpin’ Uglies

With the core of BYE still away on vacation, the team had to only play with 5 players. Despite the missing player, BYE was playing some high quality volleyball with Vlad and Tara playing their hearts out to keep BYE in this game. Unfortunately, the ugly ugly ugly squad up against them was just too much to handle, and BYE lost the first set 25-12. Moving into the second set the Uglies were determined to make a statement that they deserved to be at the top, which they absolutely did. Wayne showed off a bit with some incredible serves while the rest of the uglies were going back to the fundamentals and ended the night with a demanding 2-0 win to move to 3-1.

If you are doing the math, this means that once again we have a tie for first place. This time a three way tie between Set and Be Set, Hits Happen, and Bumpin’ Uglies with Set and Be Set’s only loss to Bumpin’ Uglies, Bumpin’ Uglies only loss being to AVTEC, and Hits Happen only loss being a forfeit in the first week. Next week we see two of these teams facing off against each other… How exciting! See you all then!

Next Week Schedule (11/11) -
