Standings
On an especially wet and miserable weather week, at least we had volleyball to look forward to. With a new setting, it felt like every team had a fresh start. Many teams played better than usual, and some played significantly worse… let’s talk about it.
5:30 - Setsy and You Know It vs. Showing Up
Setsy and You Know It and Showing Up had the same record going into this game, so it was set up to be a great match. Unfortunately, it was not much of a game. Setsy and You Know It came to play in their best outing of the season, with everyone on the team playing the best they had. Sequoia led the charge with a long stretch of 12 serves to really get ahead early in the first set. Showing Up, had what was possibly their worst game of the season. They had a hard time doing a fundamental part of volleyball: getting the ball over the net. The combination of great play on one side and a poor outing on the other resulted in two quick matches 25-6 and 25-13. We saw this week that Setsy and You Know It can show up and outplay anyone, but their biggest opponent is always themselves. Despite this, they move to 3-1 bringing them to 2nd place in the league.
6:30 - The Mahmoodies vs. Shank You Very Much
A clash of two teams coming off of close losses in the previous week, eager to prove themselves against a formidable opponent. The Mahmoodies did not have their best outing. They immediately seemed to have a lack of communication, letting the first two serves hit the ground without anyone attempting to hit them. On the other side of the court, the play was a bit better as Shank You Very Much is proving to be a formidable squad week after week. One thing that they still seem to have a hard time with is how rotation works, despite it not having changed and it being the fourth week of the season… With some extra time they always figured it out though. The Mahmoodies seemed to figure some of their problems out, but still lost two straight sets, 22-25 and 15-25, despite them being a winless squad, they truly have the ability to beat any team in this league... but only if they decide that they are going to play well that night. On the flip side, with another win the Shankers move to 3-1, tied for second place.
7:30 - Diesel Diggers vs. Lord Scorpion Viper
The final game of the night and the energy reflected that of a holiday weekend. The Diggers came in stoic as usual, ready for another good week of volleyball. They ended up playing a great first set and gave the Lords a run for their money in the first, narrowly losing 20-25. The Lords from the minute they walked in had remnants of the weekend all over them. Kylee had some sheep fuzz in her hair, Caleb almost forgot to take off his fox ears, and the entire team had alcohol still permeating through their pores. Each point seemed to be a little too fast for the undefeated Scorpion Vipers, but through some grit and a lot of luck: they pulled through. By the second set, the Diggers were warmed up and started with a long stretch of serves by Refugio to go up 13-6. The Lords seemed beat, but it seems that the Halloween mixers and elixirs had made their way out of their system, so they turned it around 180 degrees. They battled back after being down to win 25-17 and take yet another win continuing their undefeated record.
