VOLLEYBAAAAALLLLLLLLL. We are so back. Perhaps the most exciting week thus far with all three matches going forcing three games to determine their winner.
5:30 - Diesel Diggers vs. Setsy and You Know It
Many of us were not expecting this game to be as close as it was. Going into this game, both teams had similar records, but the volleyball experience of Setsy and You Know It was obvious in comparison to the Diesel Diggin Drove that meant business. Setsy and You Know It shined in the first set showing off just how Setsy they were, highlighted by some great plays by Doyle, to end the first set 25-13. During this first set, there was an inquisitive mind on the other team watching the court closely to get an understanding of how this game worked. Once Christopher figured out how to play though, he became the star of Diesel Diggers with some high flying plays, and untraditional style that kept the other team guessing. Seeing the improved play up against them, Setsy and You Know It did themselves no favors with many unforced errors, out balls, and dropped balls to hurt them down the stretch. It took a lot of work, but Diesel Diggers put their engines into high gear to stun Setsy and You Know It by taking it into deuce, and eventually coming out with the win 28-26. The third set was tense. Despite the 2000s club music playing, the tension made the room feel absolutely silent every time the ball went back over the net with Diesel Diggers doing anything they could to get their first win of the season and Setsy and You Know It showing their stuff in an attempt to improve their less than impressive record. In the end, it was Vlad from Setsy and You Know It making some key plays down the stretch that was the difference and allowed them to win the set improving to 2-1.
6:30 - Lord Scorpion Viper vs. Shank You Very Much
The battle of the top 2 teams of the season so far, and boy did it live up to the hype. Going into this game, the vibes were all fun and games, but by the end it was obvious that the energy was very serious. Starting off, Shank You Very Much played a great first set as the Lords were getting used to having their full team in attendance. The Shankers put some tricky balls back over the net with a combined front from everyone on the team. As the Lords settled into their play, many players started to play well like Caleb’s former housemate Abby with her signature of getting the ball over the net, Caleb’s classmate Carl with their incredible saves and miraculous plays, as well as Caleb’s friend and team mate Kylee proving to be a key piece of the team chemistry in her first game back. Despite Greg’s incredibly placed serves, the bite of the Viper was enough to scrape a second game win to force a third game. The third game was neck and neck until Shank You Very Much shot ahead and was up 14-9, with a chance to close out the game. The serve went to the Lords who fought with all of their lordship to bring the game to deuce matching them at 14-14. The final points came down to grit, determination, and strength, but mostly who could get the ball back over the net, and in the end, it was Lord Scorpion Viper pulling out the miraculous win 17-15 and continuing to 3-0. Both teams are excited for a rematch of this game soon.
7:30 - Showing Up vs. The Mahmoodies
The final game was just as exciting as the rest, as both teams were hyped up after the incredible finish to the previous games and looking to improve their own sub-par records. Showing Up started the game off strong by showing up the other team with some superb play by Nick and company. The Mahmoodies were not sure what to do about the tough play across the net and gave up the first set 25-17. The Mahmoodies, desperate for a win, played volley-balls to the wall in an attempt to scrape together enough points in order to go to a third game. It was back and forth, and both teams had some good plays and bad plays that pushed us into another late-night third-set game after The Mahmoodies 25-23 win. In this third set, The Mahmoodies tried everything they could in order to get a win this week, but Showing Up proved to be a formidable opponent, and the third set was taken by Showing Up 15-11 which made Mahmood Mah-moody (not my best work). This game leaves The Mahmoodies still searching for their first win in what appears to be dense fog, while Showing Up moves up the leaderboard.
After a tough week of volleyball, there is only one remaining undefeated team, but the best team is still up for debate. See you all next week (At the middle school)!
