Week Two Standings

Welcome back after another competitive week of Seward “Play Away the Fall Scaries” Volleyball. This week was the first week that we saw every team playing, and we are starting to see who the top dogs are. Without further ado, let’s get into the action.

5:30 - Bumpin’ Uglies vs. AVTEC
Our first game of the night was a competition of Bumpin’ Uglies with major chemistry and tricky shots versus some very athletic and experienced AVTEC associates that came down to the last couple points. AVTEC came out strong with Keenan and company bringing some high level play to take the first game 14-25. Into the second set, the experience seemed to diminish slightly with many unforced errors and shanked balls allowing Bumpin’ Uglies (after working out some familial disputes) to get their act together, and use the mother set, daughter spike combo to take game two, 18-25. This set up a third set that came down to the final point, but in the end it was Misha and Noah from the Alaska Vocational Technical Center that bumped the ugly out of the other team to take a Week 2 win advancing to 2-0.

6:30 -Tony’s Bar vs. Set and Be Set
Rolling straight into our second game of the night and we had Tony’s Bar versus Set and Be Set, playing their first match of the season. The first game started with the longest continuous stretch of serves from Patrick ever before seen putting Set and Be Set up 20-1, which they used to quickly finish off Tony’s Team and take Game 1, 25-3. Tony’s Bar looked quite defeated after the first set, but they got their wits about them going into the second set and played about 6x times better than they did in the first game. Unfortunately, this only added up to about 19 points and was not enough to best Set and Be Set which inflates them to 2-0 after last weeks forfeit win.

7:30 - BYE (The Team) vs. Hits Happen
After a disappointing start to the season for both teams, a loss and a no show, both teams were able to field a team for a strong game to end the night. BYE came out swinging with Chris showing off some tricky shots to steal some quick points. Because Hits Happen was only able to get five players to show up, they had to deploy the old “distract the other team with a crying baby” trick to win the first game. After the baby was fed and distracted Hits Happen was warmed up enough and the whole team was firing on all cylinders (even Ronny despite acting like he never wants to hit the ball). Even with the good play from BYE, the berate of attacks from Hits Happen was too much, allowing a 2-0 win for Hits Happen first game of the season. Hits Happen moves to 1-1 while BYE falls to 0-2.

Thanks again for reading through, good luck to all and make sure to show up for your games next week! Updated standings below.
