Week One Standings

Welcome back to another exciting Fall Volleyball season that we have on our hands to bump, set, and spike our way into Winter. Week one had some high-flying and low-bumping so let’s get into it!

BYE vs AVTEC
They’re calling it the duel of the All Caps Acronym Teams. BYE (despite the misleading name) was not the lack of a team, but a rather capable group of B-allin’ Y-oung E-nvironmentalists ready to play some volleyball. They brought the first game to the last couple of points against the Student Squad that makes up the majority of AVTEC’s athletic team. Despite BYE’s best efforts, AVTEC’s obvious experience and Gen-Z energy held off BYE’s Walrus-like embrace to win in two sets and start off the season 1-0.

Tony’s Bar vs. Bumpin’ Uglies
This game was one of momentum and long volleys that came down to the wire. Bumpin’ Uglies has some long-time chemistry and athletic experience that translated onto the court this week. They came at the first game strong resulting in a controlling 25-13 win with help from what people are calling the craziest shot ever seen at SPRD from Ed Hartman down the net line. After dropping the set, Tony’s Bar huddled together to form a new strategy. It was hard to tell, but it looked like they passed around a bottle of “Tony’s Secret Stuff” that pumped them into a strong second set knocking the Uglies off with a hard-fought 25-13. Going into the third set, both teams had a chip on their shoulder. It was neck and neck the whole time until finally the Bumpin’ Uglies went on a run to finish off the set and win 15-13, getting them into the Week 1 win column.

Set and Be Set vs. Hits Happen
The seasoned squad of Set and Be Set came ready for a game and were met with a team resembling the name of another team: BYE. Hits Happen could not make it this week resulting in a forfeit.
