The smell of freshly cut grass and recently painted lines could be smelled along the Elementary school soccer fields. Kids have been cast into their teams and parents have been asked shirt size at least 3 times. Game time rolled around at 5:30pm on Thursday, June 23rd. The excitement was palpable.

Rookies - 5:30-6:30pm

The kids were ready to go from the start on our first day of official league games. The rookies learned that they would play two 15-minute halves with a 5 minute break during half time. Our awesome coaches got the kids warmed up and ready to play and we were ready for the starting whistle.

Suds N’ Swirl v Seward Properties
Our first game on the Mt. Alice field this season was between Seward Properties in their highlighter pink uniforms and the orange Suds N’ Swirl team. It was awesome to see both of the teams get goals in the net during their first game. The teams walked away with a 1-1 tie for their first game of the year.

Seward Bike Shop v Seward Vacation Properties
Seward Bike Shop and Seward Vacation Properties took to the field to kick off the first league game on the Mt. Marathon field. We saw an explosive performance from Seward Vacation Properties' Ry Ulman, who put a series of 4 goals together for his team during their first game.

Juniors - 6:30-7:30pm

Once the younger kids finished their games, the 9-12 year old age group took to the field in their blue, yellow, red and gray jerseys, respectively. These kids were taller across the board and arguably more advanced. Makes sense. The parents lined the field on the south side and got ready for some awesome soccer!

Seward Chamber of Commerce v Tru Construction
Our first Juniors game on the Mt. Alice field this season was between Seward Chamber of Commerce in blue and Tru Construction in yellow. Coaches Isaac and Marissa led their teams through the fray, which turned out to be a battle that led to a 5-4 victory in Tru Construction’s favor. Chamber of Commerce’s Raymond Guthridge was a fire cracker on the field and scored 3 goals for his team. Simon Craytor equaled that effort for Tru Construction. Way to go!

Seward Heavy Industrial Power v Seward Coastal Charters
S.H.I.P took to the Mt. Marathon field in red for the first time in hopes to defeat their opponents in gray: Seward Coastal Charters. S.H.I.P. walked off the field after two 20 minute halves with a 3-2 victory. They were led throughout the game by striker Audrey Harner, clad in red and wearing number 9. She scored a goal in each half, and was backed up by her younger brother Harold to get a third goal. Micah Solano tacked up the 2 goals for Seward Coastal Charters, and served as a great leader for the team.
