Hey Softballers,
Another week down and five more games are in the books!
Opening the second half of the season on the lower field, the Hammerheads defend their now seven game win streak against the Master Batters with a 13-3 mercy ruling the bottom of the sixth. The game started off close with each team finding the plate once in the first inning but took a decisive turn in the third with the Hammers headin' home five times in the top of the inning and denying the Master Batters anything in the bottom.
Meanwhile, an old rivalry raged between Seward Insurance and ILWU on the upper field. Right off the bat, Seward bought some Insurance with twelve runs in the first couple innings before hitting a bit of a run bankruptcy as the ILWU defense found its footing. Taking advantage of the reprieve, ILWU did their best to return from a brutal start to the night but didn't manage to close the gap, resulting in a final score of 12-7 in Seward Insurance's favor.
As we move to the next set of games, the Mastery of the Batters is once again assessed on the lower field. This time, luck appears to be on their side as they open the game without allowing any runs from the Soft Balls and instead sending home three of their own. The Soft Balls weren't ready to give up that easy, however, as they answered with three runs in the second inning and shut down the Master Batters' offense, not allowing any runs in the third and bringing the game to a tie. Experiencing a little deja vu, the Master Batters turned the tides in the third inning, putting up six runs in the third and letting in only one by the Soft Balls, the momentum from the inning carrying the Master Batters to a 13-5 win.
On the upper field, the Babies scored, Frankly, a massive win against the Hose Jockeys, bringing them up to third in the league with a 4-3 record. Just like so many other games tonight, the teams started off evenly matched with the Hose Jockeys leading 4-3 after the first. Unfortunately for the Hose Jockeys those four runs would be their last of the night as the Baby Franks defense settled into a rhythm while their offense would go on to cross the plate eleven more times in the game, bringing the final tally to a 14-4 Baby Franks victory.
The final game of the night saw Major Marine and Spring Creek duke it out on the upper field as well. After a Major advantage for the Marines in the third inning, Spring Creek tried to answer with a couple runs in the fourth but couldn't string together enough to prevent the game from ending early with a 16-4 mercy ruling after the sixth, closing the night out very much like the way it started and bringing Major Marine's record to 3-3-1, putting them in fifth place in the league.
Make sure to check your schedule for games and umpire duties next week when we'll see you for our 250
