Hello all softball players,
Starting off the week at the upper field we had a battle for the title of ultimate public safety between Spring Creek and the Hose Jockeys. Andy propelled the Hose Jockeys with a home run and in the top of the fifth they took the lead over Spring Creek! But the hoses detached from the fire hydrant in the bottom of the fifth as Spring Creek turned into Spring River with a flood of runs as Colton, Darren and Daphne each scored twice in the inning. Spring Creek went on to win 14-5. They now sit at 2-0 while the Hose Jockeys drop to 0-2.
Meanwhile down on Lewi's Field, the Baby Franks and Master Batters were crawling along, battling back and forth with runs few and far between. The fielding clinic turned into a hitters clinic as the wear and tear came down on both pitchers in the seventh. Baby Franks spat out seven runs to take an 8-3 lead led by a three hit game from Ben. Master Batters attempted a comeback in the bottom half of the inning, but fell just short as the Baby Franks took the win by a score of 8-6. The Baby Franks grow to 2-0 while the Master Batters fall to 0-2.
Next up was a battle for the ages as ILWU and Hammerheads took to the diamond. The Hammerheads held a lead throughout, propelled by a four-hit, 5 RBI night from John. But ILWU struck mightily in the 6th as Gabby's own four-hit performance thrust ILWU into a tie with the Hammerheads and eventually a lead in extra innings. It took the heroics of John with a walk-off double for the Hammerheads to capture the win by the score of 11-10. The Hammerheads are now 2-0 while ILWU falls to 1-2.
Up on Jon Perry at the same time an onslaught was taking place. The Soft Balls fell out of competition with Seward Insurance very quickly, but smiles were being thrown around left and right; and that's all that matters right? Janus got on base all five times he stepped to the plate, and Erick popped a home run in a 15-0 rout to improve Seward Insurance to 2-1, while the Softballs fall to 0-2.
The hits just kept coming for Seward Insurance in the 8:15pm game as they continued their dominance, this time over Major Marine. David knocked a blast followed by Jack, only for that to become an out, but that was no matter as Seward Insurance won 17-2 and upped their record to 3-1. Major Marine is hoping they knocked off the rust in their first game, dropping to 0-1.
Check out the standings below and don't forget to give Ron some company up at the Snack Shack next week. Could there be something other than hot dogs being yelled over the speaker? Come on down on Monday and find out!
