WEEK ONE

Here we are folks. In the dawn of a new era. The year of the Platinum Racquetball League is upon us. This league was forged in fire, distilled from Gold League after Gold League until it became, PLATINUM! This is probably going to make a high school science teacher fall over in their chair, but I just checked seven different artificial intelligence bots and burned through enough water to sink the Titanic, and they all concluded: YES. MUCH GOLD MAKES PLATINUM!

So what can you expect from this write-up? I’ll tell you in this next sentence. Trust! That’s what the kids are saying. It’s whispered in the walls of the Teen Room. Anyways, here’s what you can expect: a write-up for each game that was played during it’s scheduled time. Yes, games can be made up, preferably before the scheduled date – but they will not get the butter on the pancake, the cherry on the ice cream cone, the dinosaur in the pen eating a goat: THE POST-GAME WRITE-UP.

I do enjoy ending these paragraph’s in full caps. We got a coffee maker in the office, because productivity. Its effects can be felt far and wide.

Anyways, here is the write up for week one of the Platinum League:

Courtney Bringhurst v Wes Shafer

We had two of our games played before Friday night, and one scheduled for Sunday evening. This left but one game for us at SPRD to watch, observe and enjoy: Courtney v Wes. Courtney is a three or four time undefeated champion. I’m losing count. We are so lucky to have such a talented individual at the forefront of our racquetball program – her talent in the court has elevated all of her opponents skill levels, and therefore the community at large. Wes is a repeat offender in our racquetball leagues, known for his big heart in the court and his diabolical serve. He admitted feelings of apprehension before the game, where I essentially had to remind him that at some point, we will all have to play Courtney. The game started off with Courtney in the serving box, and she got to work immediately collecting points. The scoreboard looked like a slot machine in Las Vegas. I can't say that I know what that looks like from experience, but I watch A LOT of television. The numbers were rapidly changing, advancing forward. Wes, staying positive, managed to get in the service box and get a point on the board, but still trailed Courtney by over 10 points. In an instant, Courtney was back in the service box and the score was 15-1. Wes felt frustrated, but kept his composure which is really hard to do. He went back in the court with his chin up and played the best he could in the given evening. Courtney was still in top form – killing shots from the front and back of the court, positioning the ball and executing passing shots without fail. Wes, having a bit more steam in his engine, performed a bit better in the second game. By the time the victory bell won for Courtney, the score was 15-3.
