Mel v Patrick
Do I believe my eyes? I’m not sure if I do. I only see two games, but that must be a mistake. In the five games that Mel has played so far, this is only the second one that hasn’t gone to three games. While I wouldn’t go as far as to say that a 3 game match is rare, it doesn’t happen every day. In fact, throughout this whole league, there hasn’t been a game that has gone to three matches, without Mel being involved. Alas, Mel has finally caught a break. Patrick on the other-hand, has had a smooth transition into the season. This week was a divisive week for the silver racquetball league, as the top three players played against the three players currently making up the metaphorical caboose. Game one began and Patrick quickly learned why Mel is the head of the Parks and Rec program here in town. With unmatched agility and speed, Mel would be a difficult game for anyone. Patrick managed to put up some points against Mel which is always an accomplishment. While he only managed to steal two points in the first game, he squeezed out five in the next. That is the kind of improvement we love to see.

Chad v James
While this is James’ first season in a racquetball league, Chad has been around the block once or twice. With this being his second season in the Silver League, Chad has built up his skills and we’ve been proudly watching him grow over the past two years. Chad’s skills were put on display during this game as he proved why he is currently the third ranked player. James is brand new to the league and is still finding his footing, but like many players, we are starting to see signs of growth.  Game one saw a quick win from Chad. Chad showed up and wasn’t interested in mercy. Serve after serve, he was unrelenting. James managed to squeak out two points, which is commendable given Chad’s racquet history. Game two was similar to game one, in that Chad managed to pull off the win relatively quickly. Don’t count James out though. We can see that violent desire to win behind his eyes.

Francisco v Kat
Here at SPRD, we take pride when we see members of our community grow. When we first set up this schedule, we would’ve guessed this game would’ve been a blow out. Kat is new to the racquetball leagues here, and Francisco is a past champion. While we have all the faith in the world in Kat’s ability to get very good at athletics very fast, this
game was a surprise nonetheless. Francisco did win both games, but not without effort. Kat showed up with the same level of intensity that we see any time she shows up to a sports event. If you don’t know Kat, you may be underestimating this intensity. It’s real. Trust me. Francissco managed to win both games, but Kat put up a respectable 6 points each game. We always say, if you get five points against your opponent, you're very much in the game.
