Ron v. Fred
While “Ron and Fred” may sound like the name of a family friendly movie, there is in fact nothing family friendly about this interaction. There is a dynamic at play here that may go unnoticed by the untrained eye, but if you’re a racquet dog like the rest of us, you may see what the rest of us see. Fred, a member of the old guard here in the court, is having to contend with the up and coming Ron. For those of us in the office, we know him as Fredito or Little Fred. Why, you ask? Because Ron has adopted the same unstoppable brutality historically displayed by Fred Original. For those of you who do work in our office and are currently thinking “Literally no one has ever called Ron that”.... Maybe now is the time. Anywho, there was a game played, and as far as I am aware, it was a spectacle. Halloween was the next day and the spooky energy lingered like a thick smoke. As the game began, each back and forth was more spooky than the next. Ultimately, Ron managed to take game one with a score of 15-7. Game two began, and it was clear that Fred was ready to take back the title. We did see some foam forming around his mouth, but we weren’t worried, as this is a regular occurrence in the court. The back and forth was vicious. Not only was Ron fighting Fred, but he was fighting his haunted past as well. As images none of us could even fathom were flashing through his head, he managed to fight through it to secure the win. Game two ended with a score of 15-5: Ron.

Courtney v. Brian
Folks, for those of us who play racquetball at the “Silver League Level”, this game was terrifying. During the Spring league, Brian was the winner of the Silver League by quite a bit. While one or two players were able to keep up for the most part, Brian ran that league like it was a treadmill. Courtney, on the other hand, has historically been the winner of the Gold League. The rest of us? Well, we're just here watching in horror. This is Brian’s first season in the Gold League, and he’s doing quite well. Facing off against Courtney is like a right of passage for everyone who goes through the gold league. Much like the boy who has to fight the wolf in the movie “300”, Brian stood unflinching in the face of danger. Game one began and Brian was fighting. Here in the office, we always say “If you put up 5 points, you’re in the game”. While most of us couldn’t put up any points against Courtney, Brian got 6. He was riding high. Like anyone would do in this situation, Brian put on a wrestling champion belt and started calling everyone who walked by a peasant. Then game two happened. Courtney zoned in. Serve after serve, she was relentless. Much like the winter winds, there's not much you can do to fight it. Courtney won game two with a score of 15-1. Courtney walked away with another win, while Brian walked away with a little more knowledge about Courtney’s game play. Keep your eyes on Brian folks, we think he might just be going somewhere in this sport.

Danny v.  Clay
Here at SPRD, we keep tabs on our racquetball players. If you have entered that room, we’re watching you. I say this not as a threat, but as encouragement. We are always watching…. Anywho, one thing we’ve noticed lately is the rise of the Clay. Danny has historically been one of the best players around. If your next game is up against Danny, you best be prepared. Clay, however, has been making a name for himself as of late. This game right here was a milestone in the world of Clay. As far as any of us know, this is the first time he has managed to best the titan of the white room we know as Danny. Don’t get me wrong, Danny didn’t make it easy for him. This was no two match game. If Clay was going to beat Danny, he was going to have to work for it. Game one began like any other. Two competitive but friendly fellows wandered into a room and started smashing balls at each other. Game one went by, and Danny was on the road to victory. The first game was cordial. No one was hit with a racquetball. There was no blood. Just friendly competition. Danny won game one with a score of 15-10. A good showing on Clay’s part, but not enough. Game two began. Clay was a new man. He knew how he was going to win. Butt shots. Clay quickly rattled off two shots at 100 miles an hour… straight at Danny’s… posterior. His moves had the exact desired effect he was looking for. Danny was thrown off his game. Clay took advantage of the moment and managed to climb his way to a 12-15 victory, sealing the deal for a third game. That was when Clay pulled off the impossible. Clay managed to win game three with a score of 6-11, and he didn’t even have to take any butt shots. Well done Clay and remember… We’re always watching.

Kirk v. Benny
October 30th was a big day for the Gold League. Before the league began many of you may not have known that Benny was a Racqueteer in the court. By now I’m sure most of you are well aware of this fact. Benny had taken some time off from the court, as he had suffered an injury that took him a while to recover from. Well folks, Benny is better, and he’s coming for you. At least, if you play racquetball in the Gold League he is. There is one thing I keep hearing from everyone who plays him. When he’s in the court, don’t expect to see where the ball is. It's too fast. All you can do is try and predict where it is going to be. Benny is a powerful man. Kirk on the other-hand, has historically been one of the best players in the league. When we started back up in October, no one knew how Benny was going to play. This game was proof that he’s back. Game one went to Kirk with a score of 8-15. Benny was holding on and playing a good game. Game two is where everything changed. Kirk was feeling good. Too good. He thought he had this one in the bag. Despite his confidence, Benny just wouldn’t let go. Benny was on his game. Kirk’s eyes couldn’t keep up with Benny’s speed. It was like watching a peregrine falcon slamming against a wall over and over again. The game just wouldn’t end. They got to 15 but 15 points wasn’t good enough for either of these fellas. They hit 16 points, but they needed more. Finally, Benny ended it. 16-18. Benny had won, securing yet another game. While Benny’s power and speed managed to get him through game two, Kirk was playing the long game. Game three was Kirk’s comeback tour. Kirk managed to secure this one with a score of 5-11. While Kirk won this game, it is an impressive thing anytime someone scores a match against one of the big dogs. Well done you two.
