Racquetballers and The Seward Community at Large!

Here we are folks, another week forward and another Friday night of Gold league games to heat up blood and quicken our pulses. As many of you know, Russ White is taking a beautiful journey on his bicycle "across the pond". He did his best, but was unable to reschedule all of his games that he would miss during his trip. For the time being, I am going to keep his We very much want your games to be made up before Here's how the games went:

Ron v Benny

To get the second week started, we had a meeting of two fellas who both have wavy hair and both work for Seward Parks and Recreation: Ron Marsh and Benny Flores. Ron was reluctant to hop in the court with someone who can hurl the ball at velocities often described by Einstein when talking about his theory of relativity, but the show must go on. The two got into the court and, like a dog on a walk, did their business. Ron started off with a strong performance, utilizing dink shots and accurate passing shots to take the lead. Benny uttered "what are ya doing, mathematics?" Ron won the first game 15-10 and was hopeful for a quick end to the match. Benny tightened his shoes, literally, after the first game for the butt-kicking that was about to take place. Benny took the lead at the start of the second game, with his explosive kill shot coming into play after warming up in the first game. Time after time, Ron would set Benny up with a lazy lob (I can say this because Ron is me), and Benny would murder the ball against the front wall. Benny took the win in the second game 7-15, sending the two into a third tie-breaking round to eleven points. The third game was similar to the pulse of the second game, with Benny commanding a lead throughout much of it. At a certain point, Ron made a switch in game play which allowed him to close the gap by 4 points before Benny took the win. This puts Benny in 4th place in the standings at the end of the second week!

Courtney v Danny

We had another department do battle with itself for the second game of the evening. This time it was the Planning and Zoning folks. Racquetball Queen and Master Courtney Bringhurst entered the court against one of her toughest competitors, The Accurate and Decisive Danny Meuninck. Danny is usually right behind Courtney in the league standings, and has beaten her on a special occasion in the past, so he hoped to put together a game that would make her fall apart. He tapped the heels of his shoes together three times and just like that, a whirlwind of racquetball swept over the court. What happened in the first game was almost indescribable. Danny pulled out the best game I have ever seen him play. It
